Kenneth Harrison

Kenneth Harrison was born August 10, 1910 in Yorkshire, England. At age 10, Ken’s mother died and for financial reasons his father placed him in the care of the Barnardo organization. In 1925, Ken set sail aboard the S.S. Montclare for Canada eventually arriving at the Barnardo, Jarvis Street headquarters in Toronto. Ken’s placement brought him to Sunderland where he worked for Bert Wadell. At the age of 23 and wanting to improve his education, Ken enrolled at the Sunderland Continuation School and completed grades 9 & 10.

During the depression years, Ken worked at various jobs in and around Toronto but Olive Fair, a Sunderland girl and his eventual wife kept him close to Brock. With the outbreak of war, Ken enlisted and served as an air mechanic overseas until 1945. On his return to Canada, he made his way back to Sunderland where he fulfilled his dream of purchasing the Waddell farm and raising purebred Holsteins. He completed his working years as the Clerk-Treasurer for Brock Township. Over his years in Brock, Ken was actively involved with the community as a Lion and Royal Canadian Legion member, and serving on governing bodies involving health, education, hydro and his church.
