The Sunderland Museum is designed to encourage exploration. You can browse by Category to discover a particular type of history, or follow Tags to uncover the connections between people, places, events, and artifacts.
Every object, photograph, document, and story in the museum is an individual Item. Categories group similar items together, while Tags weave them into a larger story. For example, William Bagshaw’s sword and his 1819 land grant are two different items, but both are linked by the Bagshaw tag. Selecting that tag reveals everything in the collection associated with him, helping you discover the people and stories that connect our community’s history.
At the top of some pages, you may see a small guard image with a Play symbol. Click it to listen to the page instead of reading it.
At the bottom of each page is the Enhanced by Google search box. Enter your search terms to use the full power of Google Search, with results limited to the Sunderland Museum website.
