Geocaching is a fun activity that encourages individuals and families to explore the outdoors while discovering local history. With support from Canadian Heritage, we have placed geocaches at a number of sites of historical significance throughout our community.
Each cache contains information about the site’s historical importance. As you search for these hidden treasures, you’ll not only enjoy fresh air and exercise but also learn about our community’s rich heritage.

For more than 100 years, the Sunderland Cenotaph has commemorated the local men who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars. In 1909 when the Vroomanton United Church brick building was built a time capsule was placed in the cornerstone. In 2026 after the sale of the church the capsule was removed and it’s contents will be on display at the Sunderland Maple Syrup Festival April 11 and 12 in the Sunderland Museum.
